Establishment of World Organisation for Animal Health: Emerging Aquatic Animal Diseases
Descriptions
This proposed project will constitute the first phase in the establishment of a World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) Collaborating Centre for Emerging Aquatic Animal Diseases (EAAD) at CEFAS. The overall aims will be to: • Focus the CCEAAD on identification of emergent and pre-emergent pathogens. To utilise the status of CCEAAD to develop strategic partnerships with relevant international governments, organisations and industries relating to aquaculture and aquatic food supply across the world. • Develop a UK Government Centre of Excellence to facilitate liaison between UK academic and industry providers and those nations requiring technology and research in support of their developing aquaculture industries. • Establish a Centre of Excellence in EAAD to train the next generation of aquatic animal health specialists from the UK and overseas. • Assist ODA/DAC-listed countries to meet OIE aquatic animal health standards (and thus facilitate safe trade) and in fulfilment of UN SDGs relating to food security.
