PURCON653 Low Carbon Assessment: Report and methodology
Descriptions
The Adapt Low Carbon Group (Adapt) is a business-facing department of University of East Anglia (UEA) that provides expertise in a number of aspects of the low carbon economy. The Low Carbon Innovation Fund (LCIF), part of Adapt, has been successful in investing £20.5m ERDF funds through equity and convertible debt into a range of SMEs that have provided evidence that their products, services or processes are able to reduce carbon emissions. However, once the investments have been made there has been no further tracking of the carbon reductions achieved due to the company’s activities. Adapt will be managing the Legacy fund, which is populated by exits from current investments. Following the team’s experience with the initial tranche the Legacy Fund will be used to generate four separate lots, which have been designated as: •Small scheme •Cleantech •Medtech •Creative content These lots are broad, but cover the range of companies that have benefitted from the original fund and those areas that the team feel will benefit most from further investment activity. Adapt seeks to: •Commission a report that reviews the carbon savings as a result of the investments that have been made through the first iteration of the fund. •Commission a methodology, including documentation, that can be used to calculate carbon savings in future investee companies, specifically in the fields outlined above
