19015 COP APB - Provision of services related to consultation on a draft Code of Practice for Accessible Public Buildings

Descriptions

The NDA has been requested to develop a draft Code of Practice on Accessible Public Buildings, to give guidance to public bodies on meeting their obligations under Section 25 of the Disability Act 2005.Section 25 of the Disability Act deals with access to public buildings. It states that public bodies must ensure that their public buildings are, as far as practicable, accessible to persons with disabilities.Public bodies must comply with the Code of Practice, as far as possible, in particular at the time of new construction, material alteration or extension of a public building or where it would be cost effective for the purpose of giving access to a greater number of people. One of the key actions in the development of a draft Code of Practice is consultation with stakeholders to obtain input on its content to inform its further development. The Code of Practice, once published, will impact a large number and broad range of stakeholders. It is considered important, therefore, to consult with a broad range of stakeholders, including: persons with sensory, physical, cognitive and immunological disabilities , individually, through disabled persons organisations (DPOs) and organisations representing persons with disabilities; older persons; public bodies, such as the Courts Service, educational establishments, local authorities and transport services providers; and building professionals, such as architects. In order to obtain input from stakeholders, the NDA wish to hold a public consultation on a draft Code of Practice. Feedback on a draft of the Code of Practice will be invited in written form (digital or printed), and other forms of communication, for example through video, will also be welcomed.Services are being sought in relation to consultation on a draft Code of Practice for Accessible Public Buildings. The services required have been identified in two partsPhase 1: Facilitation and management of five-week public consultation. Phase 2: Organisation and facilitation of 4-6 accessible workshops an
