Descriptions
As part of a system reinforcement scheme, Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission plc (SHET) intends to install a 220 kV ac subsea cable link between the Kintyre peninsula and Hunterston. The proposed reinforcement creates a new substation near Crossaig on the Kintyre peninsula and a subsea cable crossing to connect to the existing 132 kV network at Hunterston on the Ayrshire coast. The subsea link will comprise two circuits with a proposed rating of around 240 MVA for each circuit. The length of the subsea crossing is currently estimated at 41.5 km, with additional land sections of 1 km at the Kintyre end (near Crossaig) and 3.5 km at the Hunterston end (to the existing Hunterston 132 kV substation site).
