A Geomorphological Survey of Welsh Dune Systems to Determine Best Methods of Dune Rejuvenation

Descriptions

Visit the seven sand dune systems between December 2011 and February 2012 to determine current coastal geomorphological processes and sediment regimes. To determine the potential for creating areas of mobile dunes on key Welsh dune systems using geomorphological studies to identify both the most appropriate locations within the system to enable rejuvenation to best effect and the most appropriate management techniques to harness. This will probably involve artificially enlarging existing blowouts within the frontal dunes to create sand transport corridors which link up with existing stable, or largely stable, parabolic dunes further inland. This may also involve small-scale vegetation removal and perhaps a programme of local beach or dune sediment nourishment
