Through the Cognation mtb trails South Wales project funding has been secured for the capital redevelopments of the Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre. The project is a partnership project and is part-funded by the EU’s Convergence European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government with match funding coming from the Welsh Government and partner organisations. The capital developments will transform the centre into a modern facility suitable for mountain biking visitors as well as other tourists and the local community. Developments will include: Reconstruction of entrance lobby New full length windows in main centre so that the views of the Valleys can be maximised and the centre becomes more invitingRemoving the interior walls between the café ad the main entrance hall to open up the centreAlterations to the kitchen including increasing serveryNew full length patio doors in the café leading out to a covered terraced area suitable for outdoor dining Provide additional toilet facilities, including disabled toilets facilitiesConstruct extension within the existing courtyard and create further exhibition spaceAlter existing conference/meeting room space to create a more flexible facility.The date of possession of the site is anticipated to be 21st November 2011. The date for completion of the works is sixteen weeks from commencement of the works.
