Analysis of Recruitment and Retention of Teachers

Descriptions

The Welsh Government will be commissioning a research study to inform policy direction on teacher retention and the attractiveness of teaching as a profession. There are issues across the UK with teacher retention which also effect Wales. The Welsh Government wishes to explore:a. what factors influence retention andb. what are the barriers and enablers to individuals entering the profession. The Welsh Government is undertaking a series of ambitious reforms. The building of our new national curriculum is underway and will underpin all of our education reforms. New Professional Standards for Teachers and strengthened Initial Teacher Education (ITE) provision, National Approach to Professional Learning and our emerging National Academy for Educational Leadership will provide the foundation for the workforce needed to deliver. It’s critical that we retain teachers and encourage those that have the potential to make a difference to our pupils to step forward into a teaching career. This contract will include both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to provide a detailed picture of what the drivers are for keeping and attracting a range of different individuals to the teaching profession (including how we can make teaching attractive for those with Welsh Language skills).NOTE: To register your interest in this notice and obtain any additional information please visit the Sell2Wales Web Site at http://www.sell2wales.gov.wales/Search/Search_Switch.aspx?ID=71378.
