South Wales Fire & Rescue Service was formed in 1996 through the amalgamation of the former Welsh Brigades that covers an area of nearly 1085 square miles (300,000 hectares) and serves a population of just over 1.4 million.The area of South Wales it serves is one of the largest Fire and Rescue Service areas within the United Kingdom made up of rural, industrial, coastal and urban areas.The Service operates from 52 sites and a number of administrative sites and employs some 1800 personnel including Wholetime Firefighters, Firefighters on the Retained Duty System, Fire Control staff and non-uniformed support staff. These sites include Fire Control, Headquarters, the Occupational Health Unit, the Training Centre, and a number of Fire Stations.The main Administration Headquarters is located at Forest View Business Park, Llantrisant, Pontyclun CF72 8LX.Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service helps to protect a population of approximately 870,000 people over an area of approximately 4,500 square miles.The Service covers the six unitary authority areas of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire and Powys.The Service is made up of 57 Fire Stations which are crewed by a mixture of whole-time, day duty, and retained personnel. The service has approximately 1400 uniformed and non-uniformed staff.
