Approved List of Providers for Day Opportunity Services to Adults (18+)

Descriptions

Newport City Council is currently reviewing the Day Opportunities service that it provides to vulnerable people and their carers. Following this review, the Council will be clearer in its direction for Day Opportunities, which may include remodelling of existing services, new services being commissioned and the re or de commissioning of existing services. This review is necessary to ensure that the Council can continue to provide high quality social services to increasing numbers of people who require support. It also needs to make sure that services are fair to everyone whilst making sure people with more complex care needs can access the specialist support they need.As part of this review the Council wishes to commission an approved list of providers to provide Day Opportunities Services to adults (aged 18 plus) i.e. older people, those with Learning Disabilities and Mental Health issues; during the day, evenings and at weekends. The Council will use the approved list of providers to spot purchase services for eligible service users by allowing increased opportunity for independent choice and / or for those whose needs cannot be met through its own internal Day Care service. The approved list will remain open for new providers who enter the market to register and apply using the provider suitability questionnaire against which their acceptability will be evaluated. As already stated the Council is reviewing the way it provides services and the approved list of Day Opportunities providers established through this exercise may be used to determine a framework, dynamic purchasing system or contract in the future.Following the review process, some service users who have previously accessed Day Care services may not be eligible. However the Council will direct these service users by signposting them to providers for support via their website, through consultation and other methods.NOTE: The authority is using eTenderwales to carry out this procurement process.
