Architect Led Design Service for Delgany Village Public Realm Enhancement Plan

The brief is to take on board the aspirations outlined by the community and prepare a detailed sketch design addressing these aspirations, while taking account and/or applying the relevant Wicklow County Council design guidelines, County Development Plan, relevant guidance documents as they apply to outdoor spaces, roads guidelines, health and safety legislation, current planning approvals and applications for developments that are adjacent to the proposed site.The design should propose ideas to protect and develop the character of Delgany village including both the natural and built environment and show a shared vision that would support the development of the site into a sustainable cohesive village center with the quality of environment that the community have given voice to. The design solution should address the following broad objectives:Ensure a high quality of public realm•Rejuvenating the village, creating a heart for the community, creating a more attractive place to live and work.•Enhance cultural awareness and community identity•Improve the shopping and business environment•Reinforce a heritage identity of the area (see 2017 Delgany a Historical Inventory -supported by The Heritage Council)•Improve foot connections through the village and foot and cycle connections with Greystones•Introduce a shared green space for recreation, improving health through active living•Realise the potential of tourism in the area – recreational, heritage and food•Harness natural assets and encourage Biodiversity – clean river, protected wildlifeThe outcome of the process must have clear positive impacts on the village in terms of place-making and village regeneration. It is an aspiration of DCC that the rejuvenated village would positively impact on tourists as well as the local community. This a design project with no further construction related input is required.
