The provision of architectural design services as lead design consultant for the development of the Museum of the Home project for the Geffrye Museum Trust for RIBA stages 0-7 inclusive.A master plan for the development was developed by David Chipperfield Architects in 2010. Some of this remains relevant however the museum is seeking a fresh approach and new ideas in response to a modified brief.The main requirements of the project, which form the basis of the design brief, are as follows:— a new central reception hub accessed from new museum entrances front and back, ie from Kingsland Road and Geffrye Street;— a new enclosed gallery/public walkway to improve circulation, leading from the reception hub along the length of the existing museum;— a new restaurant – location to be considered – possibly within a refurbished former pub building located on the Cremer St corner of the site;— a new museum building along the Cremer Street boundary of approximately 1 300 m² to house a main gallery, a library, storage for collections, library and archive, and a conference/multi-purpose facility; the building to be connected to the existing Branson Coates extension, accessed via the new reception hub; a loading bay accessed from Cremer Street; a courtyard garden landscaped for education activities, accessed from the new and existing buildings; and— refurbishment of the existing learning spaces and other alterations to the existing buildings where necessary.Copies of selected documentation from the master plan and 2013 town planning application will be made available to tendering firms. Much of this material is in the public domain.
