Augmented Reality Project

Descriptions

OVERVIEW The technology will be extremely useful for initial assessment purposes. It will allow learners' starting points to be established more accurately. Better informed initial assessment will allow learners baselines to be used to individualise learning and facilitate effective stretch and challenge. The use of the Augmented Reality to increase the range of fully functioning scenarios that learners can be exposed to will further stretch their learning and increase the likelihood of 'high grade' outcomes in practical assessments. The technology will allow teachers to provide learners with better feedback and will help learners to be ready for assessment sooner. It will produce better outcomes and increased value added. The impact of the project will be measured in terms of staff and learner feedback. This will include an assessment of the improved rate of skills development, stretching scenarios and ultimately timely and improved grades in practical assessments. PROPOED SCOPE The project will produce software that will allow teachers to develop Augmented Reality environments that can be used in vocational learning. The environments will allow learners to become familiar with practical skills and prepare them for physical skills development in due course. Summative assessment results will show the learners to be more skilled due to their exposure to varying scenarios that simulating in a 'real-life' scenario may not otherwise allow due to health and safet... constraints, fall backs will be implemented to ensure a high level of user experience. Learners will not require any special web browser or app to view the materials that teachers have created. Industry standard browsers will work with the software that will be developed. The learners' will be able to access the AR experiences from standard websites. Alternatively, the AR will be accessible by scanning QR codes. Features: · Multiple learners at any one time 'practicing/ developing' prior to the real-life scenario. · The learners can develop practical skills from home. · Skills can be developed in the workplace where the range of practical equipment or animals aren't necessarily available. · Learners can widen their experience. · Learners will be able to access the AR from, PC. Tablet, Phone, Mac, etc. AR is not as immersive as VR. The idea of Augmented Reality is to add to our current real-life view. In other words, to "augment" the experience. AR-based gadgets are cheaper and more accessible than VR devices. It will be possible to separate the AR technology and use it on PCs, laptops, tablets and smart phones, independently from headsets and similar wearables. The AR software will be compatible with current systems and will be able to be plugged into external LMS systems. Further, the software will be compatible with AR materials already produced and available to the teacher's institutions. Hosting/Support and VAT all must be included within the budget
