Velindre NHS Trust, Welsh Blood Service are seeking expressions of interest to supply Automated Whole Blood Collection Agitator/Weighing Machines.The Welsh Blood Service is required to collect 109,000 usable whole blood donations from volunteer donors in a variety of different sites across south, west and mid-Wales including:Hired public and private venuesBespoke mobile donation clinicsStatic donation clinicsTwo of the quality standards placed on a collection of blood are:That each donation is free of clots andThat each donation is collected to a consistent defined weight.Currently the mixing of the blood with the anti-coagulant during collection is performed manually by the member of staff caring for each individual donor and the weight is measured by hanging the collection pack from a digital scale with the member of staff clamping the line appropriately.The WBS would now like to introduce automated whole blood collection Agitators / Weighing Machines with built in bar code scanners and wireless communication of draw information and data transfer to replace these two manual activities.
