SEACAMS2 is an EU Convergence Project (Convergence Programme for West Wales and the Valleys) and is led by Bangor University’s School of Ocean Sciences in partnership with Swansea University.As part of the SEACAMS2 project, Bangor University is undertaking a range of collaborative research projects with the marine renewable sector working in or based in Wales. Our main research platform for offshore subtidal sampling are the 35m Research Vessel (RV) ‘Prince Madog’. We are seeking to replace our existing transducer (now nearing the end of its working life) with a unit that will integrate with our existing hull mounting solution (details attached). The system will allow us to obtain high resolution bathymetry and collect normalised backscatter data sets and a range of other related parameters. The transducer system must be compatible and integrate easily with our existing motion compensation unit and positioning system and be compatible with existing data acquisition and post-processing software packages. It is envisaged that the sonar system will be used in continental shelf waters, with water depths ranging up to 200m but typically used in nearshore shallow water 5m-100m environments. The new system must be capable of being integrated into our existing mounting on the hull of the RV Prince Madog.
