The Scottish Government has appointed a Service Provider to support the delivery of tissue sampling and genotyping services for the delivery of the Beef Efficiency Scheme (BES).In order to successfully implement BES, the Contracting Authority requires tissue samples to be taken and genotyping performed from 20 % of calves born (and their sires) from each farm that signs up to the scheme. The sampling will be carried out by the farmer using tissue sampling management tags (and tissue tag applicators) supplied by the Service Provider, where necessary.Scope of Services:There are 5 elements of this tender we expect the Service Provider to deliver, namely:1. The supply and distribution of tissue sampling management tags to the farmers for the animals identified for genotyping as part of the scheme.2. The receipt and processing of the tissue samples for the extraction of DNA to sufficient quality for the purposes of genotyping and storage of residual DNA should animals require retesting.3. Secure the genotyping assay suitable to deliver the aims of the scheme.4. Undertaking the genotyping of the individuals identified from the scheme from the extracted DNA.5. Management of the contract including the provision of reports to the Scottish Government, appropriate information management of the samples from sample collection, DNA extraction, genotyping and results provision.
