Big Lottery People and Places Black Ethnic Minority (BME) Outreach Project

Descriptions

BME Outreach ProjectIn 2012, The Prince’s Trust was successful in securing funding from The Big Lottery Fund to recruit a BME Outreach and Engagement Project Officer, based in our Cardiff office. The Prince’s Trust recognised that we needed to make concerted efforts to engage with BME communities to support young people with specific needs to access education, training or employment provision, so the position was created to work specifically with BME communities and make Prince’s Trust programmes and support more accessible for BME young people. The BME Young Person’s Outreach and Engagement Officer works with a variety of black and ethnic minority communities and local organisations across Wales. The model assumes that by doing this, they will also be better placed to connect with and signpost young people from BME communities to relevant Prince’s Trust programmes. The project duration was initially for 3 years (Dec 2012- Dec 2016) and during that time has supported 205 BME young people. The project was recently extended into a 4th year.Evaluation ContentAimsThe Prince’s Trust is looking for an external evaluator to help us to qualitatively demonstrate the impact of the project and to explore any lessons learned in order to inform future delivery plans.ObjectivesEvaluation aims and objectives will be discussed and confirmed with the chosen provider at the evaluation inception meeting. We expect this to include:•What are the main barriers to participation that exist for young people from BME communities?•In what ways did our project benefit individual participants from these groups?•What issues did the project encounter – what did this teach us and/or how were these issues overcome?•How do key stakeholders (internal and external) perceive the project?•What is the expected legacy of the project?•What are the recommendations for future delivery plans regarding Prince’s Trust delivery to BME young people?
