Bovine EID pilot - Phase 1A
Descriptions
The BEID pilot will deliver objective evidence on the most appropriate technology to use for implementing BEID. The pilot will be split into a number of phases, the work in this tender is all in the very first phase (Harper Adams break this into a number of sub-phases below). Future phases of the pilot will follow this one and will pick up on any identified areas or gaps. The overall BEID pilot will produce a clear, evidence-based recommendations for the appropriate technology choice to support policy objectives. This recommendation will be made to the Livestock Information Transformation Programme board for decision. To do so, BEID technologies will be stress tested across industry agreed environments. These technologies must include; • Low Frequency (LF) technologies (covering both HDX and FDX) • Ultra-High Frequency (UHF) • Dual tags (LF and UHF in the same tag) There is a critical legislative timing issue in relation to this decision - whilst all efforts will be made to gather this evidence and undertake this testing, there may be external factors that prevent some of the technologies being tested. This could include commercial availability, data security issues or other external factors such as disease outbreaks.
