Brief for Specialist Consultant(s) to support Natural Ambassadors (Waders and Wildfowl)
Descriptions
Morecambe Bay is recognised as a nationally and internationally important area for wintering wildfowl and waders. Disturbance to waders and wildfowl is cited as a contributing factor to population declines, through reduced intake of food, energy expenditure through flight being the main issues. The vast mud and sand flats result in thousands of birds feeding and taking advantage of the extensive feeding area. However, when high tide occurs, these high numbers are then channelled into the few roost sites available on and around the foreshore. Users of the coastline (for recreation) add further pressure through disturbing feeding and loafing birds. Morecambe Bay Partnership wishes to appoint a consultant(s) to recruit, co-ordinate, train, and support volunteers known as 'Natural Ambassadors'. The consultant(s) will support Natural Ambassadors work with communities to increase knowledge, understanding, a sense of responsibility and improved behaviours around roosts.
