Bristol Free School (BFS) is a secondary free school that opened in Southmead, Bristol in September 2011. It is one of the first wave of 24 new free schools to open in England that year.The school has 553 year 7, 8, 9 and 10 pupils and once fully open it will cater for 750 pupils aged 11 to 16. It will also be opening its doors to 6th form students in 2016.The school is part of a multi academy trust.The Russell Education Trust appoints governors to the school's local governing body, including the head teacher, a staff governor and 2 elected parent governors.Bristol Free School is secular and non-selective.
