Bryngarw Country Park Green Roof Cycle Shelter
Descriptions
Bryngarw Country Park is well-known locally as both a starting point and destination for cyclists. The visitor centre is situated at the southern end of the Garw Valley Community Route and the park is close to the national cycle route NCN4 at Brynmenyn (which runs from London to Fishguard). An existing cycle rack adjacent to the visitor centre has been in place since 1986 but it falls short of modern standards. There are two potential locations for the cycle shelter and it is anticipated that cost and safety considerations will determine the preferred choice. Following site visits and discussions with Awen contractors may submit options for either or both locations. The first proposed location for the cycle shelter is close to the existing bike rack, adjacent to the public toilets. The area slopes down towards the toilet block, is currently enclosed by fencing and is covered with informal vegetation and small shrubs which would require clearance. The second proposed location is situated to the south of the visitor centre. It is a grassed, predominantly level area within the car park (see photograph below). The ground is firm but there are trees surrounding the proposed location and it is important that roots are not disturbed. The dimensions of this area are approximately 10 x 7 metres.
