Building a Stronger Bodelwyddan - Business Development Consultant

Bodelwyddan Castle Trust near Rhyl in North Wales operates a museum, historic house and country park. The charity was set up and operated under a structure based on receiving local government funding. Since local government reorganisation in 1996 that funding has been cut and our charity has shifted from service provider to a more commercial operation. From the start of 2018/19 all remaining County Council grant will be withdrawn, requiring the Trust to operate wholly within the envelope of its own self-generated income. This is a substantial challenge, but one that the Trust is determined to achieve. We now need to become even more efficient at generating income and use all the means at our disposal to do so. The Trust has received a Transition Funding grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to enable it to undertake the work required to meet this challenge. We are now looking for an experienced hands-on practitioner with extensive business development and operational skills in a culture, heritage or leisure setting to help us meet this challenge. The appointed consultant will need to undertake the assignment predominantly being based at the Castle, to provide support and guidance for the in-situ staff team and to enable regular liaison with key stakeholders. The project is expected to be for an approximately six month period, based on an expected commitment of two to three days a week. The brief comprises four components (1) Organisational Change and Staff Mentoring, (2) Income Generation Assessment, (3) Building a new Business Plan (4) Communications and Marketing Plan.
