SPECIFIC is a national innovation centre and Wales’ only Innovation & Knowledge Centre (IKC) a programme supported by the EPSRC, Innovate UK and European Funding through Welsh Government. As an academic and industrial consortium led by Swansea University, SPECIFIC is strategically partnered by BASF, NSG Pilkington, Tata Steel and Cardiff University.The objective is to investigate, develop and deliver a robust business case with options, recommendations and associated funding requirement (including public sector soft funding) for an exploitation vehicle to support the rollout of buildings as power stations on a UK scale.Funding has been secured from Innovate UK to conduct this Buildings A Power Stations Exploitation Project. The business case will need to be positioned within a focused business plan (to be complete end of February 2017) for the exploitation vehicle and required funding to support it over a 3-5 year horizon. The aim of the exploitation vehicle is to support and enable the rollout of the Buildings as Power Stations vision; energy positive buildings that generate, store and release their own energy. The scale of which would be to support the rollout of new housing at the scale of 1 million houses, predominately new build, associated with the social housing requirement as part of the overall housing crisis faced by the UK.Further information is available within the tender documents.NOTE: The authority is using eTenderwales to carry out this procurement process.
