Business opportunity – former Plaza Cinema, Port Talbot

Neath Port Talbot Council is seeking grant funding to regenerate the former Plaza Cinema. The Plaza etc. concept refers to Employment, Training and Community. The aim of the project is to re-develop the derelict Plaza cinema which is located in Port Talbot town centre to build a facility that will create jobs and growth and contribute to the tackling poverty agenda. It will provide flexible business incubator facilities; office / meeting rooms; multi-purpose areas for community use; a café / training kitchen facility; and flexible space for community use e.g. social enterprises.Subject to confirmation of grant funding, the Council will be undertaking a comprehensive redevelopment of the Plaza building to provide the following facilities:•332 m2 of business incubator floor space – providing accommodation for 10 new and existing small businesses• 328 m2 of community use floor space – providing facilities for a variety of community uses including parent and toddler groups, dance studio, sport activities, rehearsal space etc• 72 m2 commercial floor space – located in refurbished units within the historic frontage of the buildingThe Council would like to procure an operator for the Plaza, subject to completion of the grant funded scheme, and is seeking expressions of interest on this basis.It is proposed that the following outputs will be achieved through the project:• Jobs Accommodated – 40• Enterprises Accommodated – 10• Land developed – 0.17 ha• Premises Created or refurbished – 1,626m2• Gross jobs created – 10• Total number of traineeships – 6• Number of trainees going on to Further Education – 4• Number of trainees going on to Employment - 2It is anticipated that construction works will commence by the end of March 2018 with completion in July 2019.The Plaza would be available on a lease basis with the term to be agreed.
