Cambridge City Council - Smoke Control Impact Study 2024
Descriptions
Cambridge City Council would like to commission a piece of work to establish the health and economic impacts to residents if we were to amend the current Smoke Control Areas (SCA's) within the city. The Clean Air Act 1993 (as amended by the Environment Act 2021), requires the reduction of particulate emissions associated with solid fuel burning, and provides the ability to take enforcement action where appropriate. We want to review the existing SCA's in Cambridge and establish the air quality, wider health, and socio-economic impacts to residents and potentially businesses if the current SCA boundaries were to be amended. The five scenarios we would like to be considered are: a.maintaining the existing Smoke Control Areas (SCA's) only, (Baseline Scenario). b.maintain the existing Smoke Control Areas (SCA's) with the addition of the moored vessels in these areas. c.having a city-wide Smoke Control Area (SCA), without all moored vessels in the City. d.having a city-wide Smoke Control Area (SCA), including all moored vessels in the City. e.having no Smoke Control Areas (SCA's).
