Awarded
CEFAS21-105 ITT OCPP Future aquaculture systems in Bangladesh (OHA)
Descriptions
Through addressing sustainable seafood challenges, the OCPP hopes to ensure seafood produced and distributed in ways which support healthy ecosystems, do not overexploit marine stocks, provide sustainable inclusive and equitable livelihoods and enhance resilience to climate and socioeconomic shocks. Future aquaculture, the food it looks to produce and the health of the environment and human consumer will therefore depend directly on both the promotion of biodiversity for species culture diversification and genetic resources and, protection of the water sources in which they reside. The successful Tenderer is required to: - Apply the OHA approach detailed in recent publications i.e. https://www.nature.com/articles/s43016-020-0127-5 to assess the role of water quality and resource availability in achievement of sustainable aquaculture in Bangladesh. - Utilise published and grey literature on water availability and quality (to include industrial and domestic chemical pollutants and diverse microbial contaminants) related to Bangladesh. - Provide an assessment of how future aquaculture systems can be optimised in Bangladesh considering current and future water resources (and quality) relating to other land use and demands, and in the face of climate change, avoiding further biodiversity losses (as measured, for example, using the UK Government Treasury's Green Book approach). - Produce a report which places Bangladesh's future aquaculture aspirations in context with water quality and supply scenarios in country. - Work in collaboration with Cefas and Bangladesh colleagues. Sharing data and information as required. - Attend meetings with Cefas and Bangladesh colleagues and designated parties via virtual arrangements.
