CEFAS20-26- RFQ- Xenon lamp weathering chamber

Descriptions

Cefas (The Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science) the 'Authority', is an Executive Agency of the UK Government's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). It is an applied science agency that primarily supports government decision making whilst extending its reach across the public sector, the EU and wider markets where possible in regard to marine and closely related environments. Requirement: The Marine Litter Team at Cefas requires to purchase a single benchtop xenon lamp weathering chamber with chiller for the accelerated ageing of conventional and biodegradable plastics. Applications would mainly include small sized items (e.g. few centimetres ) and microplastics (powder form, items below 5 mm in size). The weathering chamber should be ideal for the accelerated ageing of conventional and biodegradable plastics and exposure time under the lamp should be able to be related to an estimate exposure time under natural conditions. The weathering chamber should ideally be designed to contain a specimen tray for the placement of at least 6 borosilicate glass tubes (or similar) for the exposure of the materials in different media (i.e. degradation in air, water and in sediment).
