Communties and Nature (CAN) - Connections and Paths

Descriptions

CAN is a strategic project covering the whole of the Convergence Area, with the exception of the Valleys Regional Park (see map). Its underlying ambition is to increase sustainable economic benefits and create jobs by utilising Wales’ natural heritage assets. CAN will ensure all projects adhere to environmental sustainability and bring benefits to visitors and disadvantaged communities. The CAN Connections and Paths will follow a competitive dialogue process (See Annex 5 of Specification). This pre-qualification questionnaire (PQQ) is the method whereby potential delivery agents will be identified. Only organisations that successfully pass through this stage will be invited to develop their project ideas to the stage where a tender bid can be made. The project idea must meet the following conditions:-1. The project idea’s activities must take place within the convergence area (see map)2. Projects must provide new infrastructure or renovation of existing infrastructure, or involve the creation or improvement of footpaths, bridleways or cycle ways for enjoyment of nature3. Projects which involve only promotion or marketing activities are not eligible4. Project end date must be before 30 September 20135. The project idea must encompass, at least in part, both of the following 2 aims:a) To maximise the economic benefits of natural heritage assets through increasing the volume, length and value of visits to the countryside. b) To ensure that the benefits of project activities are shared with disadvantaged groups through employment, training and volunteering opportunities. Copies of the PQQ and related documents are available in Welsh. Please contact the CCW Procurement Department for further information.
