Comparison of the relative environmental benefits of low impact machinery in small scale woodlands

Descriptions

The project seeks to quantify the impact on soil compaction and on volume of water and sediment concentration losses from woodland rides following normal forestry activities by 2 low impact tractors (hiring in a tracked bobcat and an articulated alpine tractor). We intend to compare relative losses with a control (no management) and a conventionally managed area. The project will enable us to illustrate the relative merits of the different types of management with a view to highlighting the most appropriate equipment for the job.Full tender details are given in the attachment.
