Conservation Area Appraisals
Descriptions
The purpose of this brief is to inform prospective tenderers about the client’s requirements for the preparation of a Conservation Area Appraisal (CAA) for six of the Council’s fifteen Conservation Areas. The key aim of the CAA is to characterise the development of the conservation area and its context, to better understand how its past and present character derive from its use and how it relates to the character of its surroundings. This will then feed into the appraisal section which will provide information on the significance of the area, set conservation policies, review boundaries and undertake a photographic record. Following that, a Management Plan will set out a vision and advice that will shape the long-term heritage strategy for the area. The result will be the production of one document with all three sections (Character, Appraisal and Management Plan) contained within it. The overarching aim of the project is to provide an up to date assessment of six key conservation areas within the County boundary of Newport to inform current owners and occupiers as well as potential developers and officers in making decisions relating to the Conservation Area.
