Conservation Specialist, The Reader at Calderstones

In 2012 The Reader received a stage I approval for is project here at Calderstones and began feasibility and scoping work to develop the project. In 2016 The Reader successfully passed stage II approval, going on to receive permission to start in February 2017 and are now in the delivery stage of the project. The main capital works and conservation of The Calder Stones Neolithic Monuments will take place between January 2018 and September 2018 with the majority of heritage activities being delivered right up until the project completes in September 2019. Overall an investment of GBP 4.6m is being made through the project with approximately 85% of the budget spent on capital works and 1.4% on this element. An experienced specialist conservation team is now required to work with The Reader & the Design Team to ensure appropriate plans are in place to house The Calder Stones, and record, transport, store and conserve The Calder Stones before reinstalling them at their new home on site at the appropriate time during the main capital works.
