This contract is for Works at Durham History Centre (DHC), including newbuild extension and refurbishment of Grade II listed manor house. DHC will bring into one central location the story of the history and heritage of the county, as told through historic records, photographs and objects. Plans to create a new history centre for County Durham, approved by councillors in January 2019, will transform access to, and preservation of, County Durham’s recorded heritage, and will bring Mount Oswald Manor House back into use. Adding a high quality, visually appealing extension which will complement the existing building. The Durham History Centre will bring together the Durham County Record Office, Local Studies Reference Collection, Durham Light Infantry Collection, Historic Environment Record, Registration Services and the Historic Registration Service in one redeveloped facility addressing a number of service needs.
