Contract for FCW Nematode Application

We will be awarding a contract for the application of Nematode solution to clearfell sites prior to restocking.Our intention is to award this contract for a period of 2 yearsA break point will be available within the contract after 1 year, at which time we will decide on whether the contract will continue. The decision on whether to use the break points or any or all of the extension options available will be at our discretion and we will base it on the following factors: Performance – Successful completion of hectarage to the required standard.The total value of this contract over the entire period including any extension options will be in the region of £70,000 to £90,000.We intend to award a contract for the application of Nematode solution to stumps on restock coupes in Wales and England, prior to restocking.In order to reduce the use of chemical pesticides, FCW uses beneficial nematodes in the defence against Large Pine Weevil damage to young trees. The microscopic Nematodes are applied to stumps to infect the Hylobius abietis larvae, reducing the emergent adult population and minimising fatal damage to planted trees. This application must take place during June, July or August in order to infect the larvae, before they pupate and emerge as adults.We intend to award a contract to apply nematodes to a minimum of 200 ha and a maximum of 450 ha per annum, in the period June, July and August. No application will take place outwith these months.Nematode application programme is offered in 1 lot, covering sites across the Principality, with the bulk of the programme in Tywi Forest, Hafren Forest, Clocaenog Forest and Alwen Forest. Programme may also include approx 70ha in the Kielder region of North East England.•The contractor will organise and manage a team of 4 operators to apply nematodes to every visible stump within the agreed area to be treated.•The contractor will be responsible for the managing and supply of water to eachsite and will need to have the relevant equipment ie. Water tank/storage, pump, water extraction licence etc (if needed).•The contractor will be designated the site manager for the operation and will make day-to-day decisions to ensure that operations follow all procedures specified by Wales Silviculture Operations (WSO).•FCW to supply and maintain Forwarder and spraying equipment with FCW Operator to drive the Forwarder.•FCW to supply live Nematode Product.
