Contract for Security Maintenance

The Open University has awarded a new contract to the current security maintenance partner which covers the installation and maintenance, on a nationwide basis, including Ireland, of Access Control, CCTV, Intruder Alarms, Intercoms, Control Room Monitoring Equipment and the integration of these into a single platform with links to the University's IT system. This includes external monitoring of intruder alarms. The system covers all OU sites and comprises 834 card readers, 391 CCTV cameras, 37 intruder alarms and 18 intercoms. The system is utilised to produce all of the ID cards for staff, PGR students and contractors., The main access control system is Maxxess and is the backbone of all of the systems, forming the integration link that permits monitoring and responses to all of the electronic security systems. The Maxxess system also permits access to the data on the card holders that is utilised across all OU locations for the use of printers and scanners and the Library barcode system for logging books in and out. The system has been in place for more than 15 years and has been regularly upgraded to the latest software and firmware.
