Awarded
Contract for the repair/rebuild of Dry Stone Ha-Ha with Iron Railings (CL2) at Westonbirt, The National Arboretum.
Descriptions
The Forestry Commission will be awarding a contract for the repair/restoration of a Dry Stone Ha-ha with iron railings fixed (CL2) at Westonbirt, The National Arboretum. NB This contract is for the Dry Stone Ha-ha only. The railings will be managed by a separate contractor. Restoration and repair is required to the existing wall that runs at approximately 625 metres in length and is 0.9 metres in height around the downs at Westonbirt Arboretum. The ground level must be flush with the coping. Where rebuild rather than repair is necessary, all stone is to be carefully removed and the wall is to be taken down to the footing. All footing stones will then be reset or replaced where necessary, and the wall will be rebuilt. Where the wall is to be rebuilt, the banking must be cut back to a distance at least equal to half the height of the finished wall. If the material behind the wall is loose or liable to slumping, cut back further and/or slope the face of the bank away from the wall. Contractors are to backfill any cut back sections. Anchor stones for the railing supports are set at 1.3metre intervals. Reuse as many existing anchor stones as possible, logistics regarding railing removals and fitting will need to be considered and discussed between contractors. This Ha-Ha forms one of the main boundaries in the grounds between the Old Arboretum and the Downs. It is in a highly visible part of the Arboretum and so your work will be viewed by the majority of our visitors. As this contract is part of a larger boundary restoration project there is scope for further Dry Stone Walling work beyond this contract. Please express your interest in this tender to Daniel Reid at the Westonbirt Arboretum by email by the 14th September 2015 to allow us to notify you of any questions and answers we may receive.
