Corwen Giants - Visit Wales RTEF
Descriptions
Addo and Denbighshire County Council are inviting applications from experienced Artists, Designers and Landscape Architects to produce a new art installation for Dol Corwenna in Corwen.Dol Corwenna is a large, open community space located between the town and the heritage railway line. The commissioned work will be situated and made in response to aspects of the social and cultural ecology of the local area and will be informed by previous artist’s interventions and projects on site. The commission will culminate in a large-scale earthwork, which will celebrate local and national folklore notably the local mythology around giants, protected landscapes and provide the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate the area’s special landscape qualities and its natural and cultural heritage. This commission has been funded by Visit Wales, under the Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, and is being led by the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Much had been done prior to the recent extension of the Llangollen Heritage Railway in 2015 to increase the profile of art and environment within the town. As a result of several artist residencies focusing on the field space a vibrant gardening and landscape culture exists within the town driven by partnership working between local residents with support from Countryside Officers from the local authority. This includes a Community Garden and Orchard on site.
