Countering the under-achievement of boys

The Welsh Assembly Government on behalf of the Welsh Ministers (herein after referred to as the “Client”) wishes to invite bids for a National Programme to Counter the under-achievement of boys. The programme will support the Welsh Assembly Government’s aims under the National Literacy Plan to raise the literacy levels of pupils aged 7-11 who have difficulties with oracy, reading and writing of English and/or Welsh and who are at risk of disengagement from education. It is intended that the project will begin in the 2011 autumn term and run for three years.The Contract will have an option to extend the duration up to a period of a further 12 months.The aim of the project is to improve the performance and achievement of boys by establishing a national programme of interventions to address the wide range of issues which undermine and form barriers to boys’ achievement in schools.
