NLW has piloted several innovative crowdsourcing projects especially using digital volunteers who can work from home in Wales and beyond. The proposal will be to develop a customisable open source bilingual crowdsourcing tool, which can be used to gather digital, volunteer-generated information from various collections. Potential Collections to include Photographs/Images, Archives and Manuscripts, Maps and Printed Material.The proposed tool will need to include and work with the following technologies -IIIF Standard (http://iiif.io),Web Annotations Standard (https://www.w3.org/TR/annotation-model/)The adoption of a new crowdsourcing platform would significantly improve the Library’s ability to work in partnership to transcribe digital items from the Library’s collections making material more visible online and widening access to the material. The Library’s experience with working with over 800 volunteers in the Cynefin(http://cynefin.archiveswales.org.uk/en/) project to digitise and transcribe tithe maps has demonstrated that this a successful way to engage with volunteers and provide opportunities to learn digital skills and improve health and well-being.
