CTB Piles at Ferry Slipway - Castletownbere Ferry Slipway Pile Replacement
Descriptions
The FHC under The Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (DAFM) owns, operates, and maintains several quay infrastructures in Castletownbere harbour including a slipway used by the Bere Island Ferry Services. The slipway serves as the land access for roll-on, roll-off ferries for vehicular and pedestrian access. The ferries operate between mainland Castletownbere and Bere Island and during peak operations, ferries may use the slipway, 9-12 times daily. As part of maintenance regimes, 9No slipway piles have been identified by DAFM as critical for remedial works. The piles are used as berthing piles for the roll-on/roll-off ferry and enable the ferry to maintain position during loading and unloading from the slipway. For the purpose of this project “remedial works” or “the works” will include:• The services related to temporary relocation of the ferry land access; • The removal of 8No of existing piles,• The refurbishment of 1No of existing pile,• The installation of 8No of new piles including fenders and accessories, and• All associated activities required to execute the works
