Culvert Extensions with associated Headwall and Trash Screen- Lakeside, Lydney - AWARD
Descriptions
The Forest of Dean District Council has permissive powers to carry out drainage improvement works to alleviate flooding within the District and have obtained funding from Gloucestershire County Council to undertake flood alleviation work at Lakeside Avenue, Lydney. The main purpose of the work is to improve the evacuation of water from the area. The current arrangement has a horizontal "roll barred" trash screen and an overflow culvert, at approximately 70o to the main culvert. The trash screen has the potential to block and during high rainfall events in Summer 2007 and Winter 2013/14, resulted in significant flooding along Lakeside Avenue. The work will involve extending both culverts 12m upstream and installing a new brick and block headwall such that the main culvert and overflow culvert are on face. The new trash screen is designed with vertical flat bars to prevent material entering the culvert that might otherwise cause blockage.
