Cymorth TB Independant Support Programme

Descriptions

The Welsh Government has developed the Cymorth TB programme over a number of years. Cymorth TB seeks to enable farmers and herd keepers who have suffered a TB breakdown and may be under cattle movement restrictions to survive as a business and to make the right decisions for themselves and their families. The programme is split into 3 workstreams:1.The Veterinary Programme2.The Independent Support Programme3.The Partnership ProgrammeWorkstreams 1 and 3 are dealt with separately. As part of work-stream 2 The Support Programme, the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer has been developing a programme that provides support, advice and signposting for individual farmers, their families and their businesses. It is proposed that a single non-governmental organisation, who can work at arms length from government, with a clear, existing track record. They will be required to provide a service that includes the required social and family aspects of the programme through to effective business support and advocacy service. This service will be about enabling the individuals and their businesses to make positive decisions about the future while undergoing a TB breakdown – it is not about telling farmers and herd keepers what to do or subsidising their business. The service we propose to deliver through FCN includes specific support for individuals who may be subject to issues of mental and/or physical ill health as a result of pressure and stress exerted on them during a TB breakdown and the imposition of movement restrictions. Supplying a clear and unbiased advocacy and advice service will also empower individual farmers and farming families to make the tough decisions to continue to develop their businesses despite the restrictions placed on them. FCN have a proven track record in delivering just such services across both Wales and England.Health – Cymorth TB seeks to support farmers living through the stress of a TB breakdown. As well as working with Farmers to offer support for their businesses the Welsh Government hopes to work with independent organisations to offer comprehensive support to individuals and farming families. This will include issues around isolation and depression.Economy – Cymorth TB is designed to support individual farmers and their businesses to survive while under TB restrictions but also prevent disease from affecting their businesses in the first place.Education – The Cymorth TB independent support programme is designed to improve the educational quality and understanding of TB across the farming industry but particularly for individual farmers and farming families. The high quality programme sought will improve the service the Welsh Government is able to deliver across Wales.Provision of service will be monitored on a quarterly basis with a full assessment of performance in the final quarter of the year with a view to continuance over an initial 3 year period..The scheme is voluntary on the part of farmers seeking support and success will be reliant on highlighting availability of the service and what it can achieve with industry partner bodies and individuals.NOTE: To register your interest in this notice and obtain any additional information please visit the Sell2Wales Web Site at http://www.sell2wales.gov.uk/Search/Search_Switch.aspx?ID=36054.
