Cytoreductive surgery services on behalf of NHS England — Specialised Commissioning Peritoneal carcinomatosis is an advanced form of cancer found in the peritoneal cavity. This type of cancer occurs when cancers spread from their origin in, for example, the appendix, bowel, rectum or ovaries. It is associated with short survival and poor quality of life, and may lead to bowel obstruction, accumulation of fluid in the peritoneal cavity and pain.Cytoreductive surgery plus hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy aims to provide curative treatment through complete removal of the tumour.
