As part of their responsibility under the “Beyond Tolerance” Action Plan, the Council is seeking to appoint a competent supplier to design, develop and deliver a comprehensive ethnic minority cultural and integration programme across the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area. Building Positive Relations Specific Objective 3The main objectives of the theme are as follows: The promotion of positive relations characterised by respect, where cultural diversity is celebrated and people can live, learn and socialise together, free from prejudice, hate and intolerance.The Programme will provide opportunities for sustained, meaningful and purposeful contact between individuals and groups of different backgrounds, in particular, the Traveller Community. Through this contact the Programme will result in a reduction in isolation, polarisation, division, prejudice, sectarianism, racism and stereotypes between/among groups.The Programme will pay particular attention to the Traveller Community who traditionally have been marginalised in society so that opportunities will be created that allow for a greater degree of participation and integration in society. Building on the experience of previous programmes, the development of strong local partnerships will be supported.The Council is seeking to appoint a competent supplier to design, develop and deliver a comprehensive Traveller Culture Programme in the area of Documentary Photography across the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area. The programme will comprise of 2 projects involving workshop based learning and site visits.The overall aim of the programme is as follows:•promotion of the Traveller Community culture in order to address existing myths, stereotypes and negative attitudes; •facilitation of meaningful engagement between the Traveller Community and settled communities;•building the capacity of the Traveller Community•enhancing cultural understanding between communities.
