Outlet grilles prevent unauthorised access to the drainage system from the downstream outlet and can prevent blockage by debris carried into the system by tidal and backwater flows.Grilles are an important part of Rivers Agency defences against flooding and they are normally positioned at the upstream entrance to piped and culverted watercourses. They trap debris to prevent it from entering the system and causing an obstruction within that cannot be cleared until the flood waters have subsided. This has serious implications for risk to life, damage to properties and can cause essential infrastructure to fail. The structure is designed to trap debris at one location and provides a safe access for officers from the Agency to inspect it and safely remove any build-up of debris or obstruction trapped by the grille.The procurement objective is to source a supplier for the fabrication and installation of galvanised steel inlet and outlet grilles, access ladders and platforms, safety rails and gates at various sites throughout Counties Tyrone, Fermanagh, Londonderry and Antrim.
