Delivery of training and assessment of the Advanced Creative and Digital Media Apprenticeship in Wal

Descriptions

Skillset Cymru has secured support from the Welsh Assembly Government’s Sector Priorities Fund to deliver its new Advanced Apprenticeship in Creative & Digital Media with two Further Education colleges in Wales. These Apprenticeships will start in January 2011 over a period of up to 12 months with 30 apprentices benefitting (15 at each FEI). Skillset Cymru is now implementing an Expression of Interest process to select the two most suitable colleges. This new Apprenticeship qualification forms part of Skillset’s commitment to recent policy announcements by the Welsh Assembly Government, where an increased focus is being placed on developing and prioritising the Creative Media industries and ensuring our education system in Wales is adequately prepared to meet the sector’s needs. Skillset is collaborating closely with the Welsh Assembly Government to take forward the recommendations of its newly published Creative Industries Strategy. A key recommendation of the education and skills section of that strategy is that training provision is more aligned to employer needs. The Welsh Assembly Government’s recently published Economic Renewal Programme also identifies the Creative Industries as one of six priority sectors for Welsh Assembly business support and the education system in Wales is singled out as having an important role to play in economic growth. Our work with the Further Education sector in Wales forms a critical part of taking this agenda forward. These apprenticeships are supported and approved by Skillset Cymru's National Board, which includes representation from BBC Wales, ITV, S4C, the Welsh Assembly Government, the Film Agency for Wales (FAW), the trade union BECTU, trade associations TAC and Pact and Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW).There is approximately £50,000 available (£27,677.50 for each FEI). This is additional funding to monies already allocated to FEIs under their Work Based Learning (WBL) contracts with the Welsh Assembly Government.
