The Oxfordshire Salaried Primary Care Dental Service (part of Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust) is seeking bids for the provision of a Dental Laboratory service. The area covered is approximately a 100 mile radius of Oxford however suppliers will not be required to cover the whole of this area.The OSPCDS provides dental treatment and advice at 10 dental clinics to a wide range of patients including children, special care, dental emergencies requiring urgent treatment and referrals from, for example, General Medical and Dental Practitioners. Within the service are a number of specialists including orthodontic, endodontic, paediatric, oral surgery and special care dentistry.Approximately 32 000 patients are seen and treated each year within the service. Of these, denture and crown and bridge work is carried out for approximately 400 patients per year.Essential requirements:— All technicians to be registered with the General Dental Council;— Laboratories must meet the requirements of the Medical Devices Regulations;— Laboratories must be registered with the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA);— All materials to be CE marked and from approved suppliers.Desirable:— Membership of the Dental Appliance Manufacturers' Audit Scheme.It is proposed that the Trust will award provisional contracts to up to 8 suppliers for a period of 6 months. During that time there will be evaluations of the product quality of each supplier and the service provided. At the end of the provisional contract period further contracts for 3 years will be offered to up to 4 suppliers who have achieved the highest scores during the evaluation process.
