Design, Supply and Installation of an Outdoor Literacy Area in Primary Schools

Descriptions

Denbighshire County Council has secured funding from the Welsh Government to create Outdoor Literacy areas in a number of Primary schools within the county. Currently all schools have been invited to submit a bid for the building of a Literacy area within their location. This is a fixed budget scheme due to the grant conditions and it is anticipated that the number of schools able to benefit from this opportunity will be six, although subject to the costs submitted this number may increase. The aim of the grant is to improve the literacy levels within the county by creating outdoor areas that can be used as teaching areas for pupils between the ages of 3 to 7 years. RequirementThe project is for the supply and installation of a range of natural timber fencing, tables and seating as identified below. Subject to the area designated in each school that is successfully awarded a grant each design layout will differ. It is intended that the minimum requirements for each site will be:•50m of picket type fencing, 1.2m high, round top with a 1m gate for access to the enclosed area.•9m of hazel hurdles, 1m high to create a seating enclosure within the larger fenced area.•Seating – 6 x 1m x 30/35cms high logs to be used as seating. Each to be suitably dressed to prevent injury to the children.•6 x 2m high planed wooden posts to form a hexagon.•3 x circular timber tables 1.10m dia x 50cms high 1.10m dia x 65cms high 1.10m dia x 70cms high•1 x large rectangular table 92cms wide x 214cms long x 60cms high•4 x resource boxes 30cms(w) x 30cms(d) x 45cms (h). (Similar to bird nesting boxes) These are intended to hold clipboards. All tables shall be buried approx 30cms into the ground. All timber used should be of a natural appearance and from sustainable sources wherever possible. All sites will be subject to a survey by the winning provider in order to establish the full requirement, designated area, accessibility and ground conditions.Providers are also asked to provide an initial innovative design layout of the above equipment although it is likely that each individual layout will differ following the identification of each site. It is also possible that the number of items required may also vary dependent on each site.
