De-silting, Re-establishment of correct water levels, and Ecological Enhancement of the Boating Lake at Charlton Sports Ground
Descriptions
Charlton Leisure Centre is owned by Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) and is a large outdoor leisure/sports complex. It covers an area of approximately 77 acres (31 ha) in extent. Charlton Lakes were formed from gravel extraction in the 1960’s and are now the main natural feature of the site. The lakes are split into distinct uses with recreation on the upper lake (boating and canoes) and the lower lake (Foxcotte Lake) managed for fishing by Andover Angling Club. Over the coming years, additional capital investment is intended to be made at Charlton to improve the standard of the site, to encourage greater visitor numbers. These works are a crucial part of these improvements and a catalyst for on-going and sustained improvements. The main emphasis of these works is the de-silting, and re-establishment, of correct water levels in the boating lake (Charlton Lake) in order to allow its continued recreational use primarily as a boating facility. In turn, this provides an opportunity for the ecological, and aesthetic, improvement of the existing marginal areas of the lake. Returns by 13:00 on 31 August 2016 Contract start and end dates are estimates which are required to publish this notice. Specific start and end dates will be agreed with the successful contractor.
