Developing a new and accredited knowledge based qualification for Wales’ Outdoor Adventure sector
Descriptions
As an Apprenticeship framework developer, SkillsActive are in the process of developing and finalising a Welsh Government Specification of Apprenticeship Standards Wales (SASW) compliant Apprenticeship Framework within the field of Outdoor Adventure. This will build on the existing Specification of Apprenticeship Standards England (SASE) framework entitled ‘Outdoor Programmes’. The new framework for Wales will be consulted upon, finalised and submitted to Apprenticeships Frameworks Online (AFO) by the end of September 2013. Delivery will then be piloted across Wales over a 12 month period and through to October 2014.Through previous employer engagement, SkillsActive has become aware of the limited availability and choice of knowledge-based qualifications that are funded through the Apprenticeship framework in England. Therefore, this tender process will see the development and accreditation of a new fit-for-purpose vocational work-based qualification to address the needs of employers across the outdoor adventure sector. A new Level 3 knowledge qualification will be developed based on the model of the successful Level 2 Activity Leadership Apprenticeship framework which incorporates a Level 2 induction type QCF qualification which forms the key Knowledge Component qualification within the framework, but can also be used as a valuable stand-alone work-based qualification. Therefore, and through this tender specification, SkillsActive is looking to commission an appropriate organisation to develop a new Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) accredited knowledge based qualification at Level 3 within the field of outdoor adventure. This qualification will build on the already successful Level 2 ‘Award in Introductory Work in the Outdoors’ and will be incorporated into the developing Level 3 SASW compliant Apprenticeship Framework by the end of December 2013.Prospective suppliers may wish to work independently or in partnership but must have the ability to develop and submit qualifications onto the QCF within a relatively short timescale. A lead applicant must be identified in the event of a partnership.
