Development of a Preceptorship for Physician Associates in Hospital Eye Health
Descriptions
Hospital Eye Services (HES) require a significant expansion in an ‘allied’ workforce to meet the requirements of the increasing demand to Ophthalmology services across the country. PAs are currently working across 46 specialties both in the hospital and in primary and community care, but none are known to work within an Ophthalmology setting. The initial training and core capabilities framework for Physician Associates (PAs) position them as valuable members of a multidisciplinary team in the HES.The objective of this project is the development of a ‘preceptorship’ training programme for PAs in eye health incorporating the Ophthalmic Practitioner Training (OPT) Programme and piloting this across at least two HES sites.https://atamis-1928.cloudforce.com/sfc/p/0O000000rwim/a/8d000001R3Z4/p248aiva1fKUW3ITSlS2x1FnmifulEGBnDXDL0tPacY
