The Food and Fitness for Children and Young People implementation plan sets out some of the ways in which the Assembly government is helping to support parents, children and young people in their efforts to eat well, stay fit and achieve the highest standard of health possible. A key aim of this work is to enable people working with younger children to incorporate healthy eating and physical activity through provision of age appropriate healthy food choices and active play and also to support parents to continue these practices at home.Work has been undertaken to improve the quality and nutritional value of food served in early years establishments through production of ‘Food and Health Guidance for Early Years and Childcare Settings (WAG 2009) and to incorporate food within play through ‘Adventures in Foodland’ , a resource for the Foundation Phase, which is also made available for early years settings. Development of children’s physical developmental skills is being supported through the launch of ’Play to Learn’ for the maintained Foundation Phase sector in early 2010. The WAG has also launched change4life and a series of training workshops have provided awareness and guidance on the use of the Early Years Guide for local supporters and toolkit to early years and pre school settings .http://www.wales.gov.uk /change4lifeContract Requirement The aim of this contract is develop an activity resource pack and training to enable settings to embed food activities and active play more fully and engage with parents utilising activities that can be used in the settings and at home. To appoint a contractor(s) with the knowledge and skills required to deliver one or more of the following lots :a)Develop and pilot a toolkit in the form of bi-lingual activity cards for encouraging physical activity through active play in the 1-3 year age group both in the setting and for parents at home b)Develop and pilot a toolkit in the form of bi-lingual activity cards for developing good food practices in the 1-3 year age group both in the setting and for parents at home c)Develop and deliver 12 half day training workshops to introduce the toolkit to early years and child care settings across Wales Potential contractors can tender for the whole contract or elements a) or b) and/or c)Potential suppliers are asked to state which lots they are interested in participating in at submission of espession of interestThe contract is expected to run between August and December 2010 for part a) and b) and between December 2010 and March 2011 for part c)The awarding Authority reserves the right to request parent company and/or other guarantees of performance and financial liabilityPayment terms will be indicated in the contract documents. Tenders to be priced in Sterling.
